A new home

While it has been a very long time since this site was updated, I recently learnt that Gamespy was being closed down by IGN and our existing hosting would be terminated on 31 August 2009. Therefore I have decided that rather than let this site die entirely, I have re-located it t a new home.

Please update all link to www.express-world.co.uk/locomotionuk/

As part of this move, I have decided to scrap and close our previous forums. They had become full of spam and were out of control. I am currently exploring options for some new forums which will be operated in conjunction with the main express world site.

More details to follow

Still Going!

Despite the lack of an update here for a while, the community for Locomotion is still going very strong! Our message boards are busier than ever before! Click here to head over to the LocoForums to interact with other players!

Also, for UK residents, you may be interested to know that Play.com is currently selling the game for just £5! If you shop around, you may find it cheaper than that... so its a great time to pick up a bargain and join in the fun! If you find the game anywhere cheaper, send me an email and I will email the world know!

Announcement: Locomotion 2005 International Competition

An exciting development for you all to participate in! Remember to head over to the messageboards to participate.

LocomotionUK in conjunction with partner site Locomotion-fanpage.net
is delighted to announce the first ever Inter-forum,
International Locomotion competition.

Locomotion players of the world are invited to participate in the games.

- 4 linked scenarios for players to demonstrate their prowess and
creativity....and of course just enjoy the game
- multiple and even 'late' submissions
- you don't have to play all maps - you may specialize.
- Personal rankings based on simple scoring criteria. Who will be the
greatest train driver, ship captain etc....or all round greatest
- Each player is also representing his or her chosen fan site.  Their forum
score whatever their players score.
- All players will score points.  More players = more points ..for both
players and forums

Announcements are being made on the German Locomotion-fanpage.net and on
tt.forum

If you are reading this then LocomotionUK needs you. More players mean more
points and more fun.

Outline details

01Aug - 13Aug: Map 1:  5 years to deliver as much iron in England as
possible. There is a busy Steel Mill at Gt Yarmouth that needs as much iron
as you can deliver. Three mines located at various distances on the flat
map.  You will use the great UK steam trains that come as standard loco
vehicles.

14Aug - 27Aug: Map 2: The Yarmouth Steel Mill has closed down.  So what to
do with all that Iron? Ah ha! A market in Northern Germany. 10 years to
deliver as much of that iron by ship to a Steel Mill at Rostock.  Not an
easy navigation. This game has hidden depths to it and that's not a pun on
the North Sea.

28Aug - 10Sep: Map 3: With the focus moved to German soil your co-hosts take
over.  The plan is to ensure the Rostock Steel mill receives Coal via
excellent narrow gauge rails and then the high quality steel is trucked to
the Mercedes Auto Factory.  5 years to deliver as much Steel as possible.

11Sep - 24Sep: Map 4: Those VW parts [Goods] are needed by enthusiasts the
world over. Distribution around Europe by modern Aircraft is your objective
here.  10years to move as many goods as possible.

25Sep- 30 Sep: Replays and final chances to improve.

01Oct Final scoring and award giving.

One unique feature of our scoring for these games.  The top three players
for each map will be those who have submitted their cargo totals(s) by the
closing date.  A late submission is most welcome but cannot displace one of
the top three medal winners.

So are you in?

As in all big International sports events the final preparations are
frantically under way and will be right up the final moment.  More
information will follow over the next few days.  Questions welcome.

All members and visitors:  We need you.

The maps will be hosted on both the Locomotion UK Forums and Fileplanet for the duration of this event. The maps wil not be out until the launch date. Watch this space for more info!

Look Look! Its An Update!

You may, or may not know, but I (Jambo) have been absent from the site for quite sometime, due to personal reasons. I recently returned to run the messageboards, and I'm back here too now. Thanks to Timthebadger for running the show while I've been away!

First things first, head over to the messageboards, where you can now upload your scenarios for everyone to download! Click here for the download board for maps, and upload your mods here.

If you don't wish to upload your file, you can still send it to expressworld@hotmail.com for hosting on fileplanet!

Also, each week we will feature a new "LocoPoll," which you can see at the top of this news page

The Wishlists: Today's Best!

What do you want to see in Locomotion's sequel, expansion pack or patch update? Well, we are collecting all the ideas together, and they will regularly be sent of to a representative of Chris Sawyer and to Atari! Click here to add your voice

Here is the best idea for this update: (From oldtimer)
1- The ability to see the whole of the underground layout, even through roads and stations, etc. I wanted to add signals to the railway track, but for the life of me, I just couldn't see it.

2) The ability to work with my second monitor. Once I open Locomotion, I'm stuck there. If I need to make notes in say, MS Word, I have to close Locomotion before I can get the curser to move to the other monitor. This defeats the object

Time slips away...

Hiya folks!

I'm sorry guys but the updating of the pages is taking longer than I'd hoped :(

I'm slowly geting through them (links and downloads are now sorted, as is the front page) so please bear with us through this minor rejuvenation.

Locomotion is now officially out in the UK on budget release (that's £9.99 to you) which is slightly saddening, after only 7 months. At least if you're reading this then you've realised it's potential! Maybe the new budget release will result in an influx of new members for the messageboards!

Until next time...

New Colours!

Hiya folks!

We've got new colours!! Well, not exactly new, the forum ones! I'm slowly going through the site and updating links and things that didn't get round to being updated with the Strategyplanet switch. There's updates almost everywhere, so take a look around!

The great news is that we're getting nearly 140 unique visitors every day which is, in my opinion, great. You can check out the stats by clicking on the counter to the left, or this link right..........here.
I love the fact that a game like Locomotion, while not stupidly popular throughout the whole gaming community (unlike something like Half-Life2), can have a lowly fansite that is getting this many unique visitors 7 months after the game's release. I just wish some more of you would stop in on the forum and say something!!

Ein Hallo an alle unsere neuen deutschen Freunde!! We have our first official fansite buddy...

Now then, I know it's in German, but they have a great site if you can read it!

We also now can (belatedly) announce the release of the European version of the patch. You can get it here.

Should be more soon...

Ahh, the smell of new manager!

Hiya folks!

Some of you may know me from the forums - I'm Mr. Thebadger and I'm going to be taking over the running of LocomotionUK from Jambo for a while. Rest assured though, he is planning on returning!

I do have some ideas to implement here at LocomotionUK but the most important thing is for you all to get involved! I encourage you to head over to the messageboards and get posting. We value all the comments and feedback we get from our members.

One new section I hope to get up and running quickly is our new mod section. Currently it resides here, but we have permission from some of the mod creators to host their files here on LocomotionUK, and provide proper links rather than making a trawl through pages of posts necessary.

Have a go at the current challenge and let us know how you got on, or even create one yourself!

Any suggestions please email me timthebadger@gmail.com, and I'll see what I can do to get back to you :-P

Enjoy your Easter (if you're that way inclined)!

Keep on Locomotioning,

TTB
